Different Measuring Tools And Lining Tools That Are Used In Carpentry

There are different measuring and Lining tools that are use in carpentry. These tools perform different functions in carpentry works.

Among of the measuring tools are the Zigzag Rule, the Foot Rule, the Push-pull, the Try Square, the Miter and Try Square, the Sliding t-Bevel, and the Steel Square.

The Zigzag Rule is a tool that is used for measuring long pieces; it is made either of wood or in light metal.

The Foot Rule is a tool that is used for measuring and laying-out. This is a 12 inch straight edge that is made up of plastic, wood or steel.

The Push-Pull Rule

is a tool that is used for measuring either inside or outside. It has a sliding knot; the knot holds the tape while laying out measurement using the hook on the end.

The Try Square is a tool in carpentry that is used to measure and test the squareness of the corners of the wood.

The Miter and Try Square is used as similar to a try square; the exception is that the handle of this device that is attached to one end is in 45 degrees.

The Sliding T-Bevel is also like a Try Square; the exception is that this device has an adjustable blade that is attached to its handle. The Sliding T-Bevel is used in testing as well as laying out any angle.

Steel Square is a device that is also similar to the try Square; however the body of this device is made up from steel. The longer part of this device is called as the body and the shorter part is called as the tongue.

Among of the Lining tools are the Carpenter’s pencil, the Marking Gauge, Chalk line and Awl.

The Carpenter’s Pencil is considered as one of the common requirements in woodworking. It has the same length with the ordinary pencil and it is use for markings.

The Marking Gauge is also a lining tool that has wooden bar that is called as beam. This is eight (8) inches long wherein a wooden block or head slides.

The Chalkline is an instrument that looks like a box. It has a hallow spot where the spool for the string and the small piece of rug are inserted.

The Awl is a kind of pointed tool that is used to be able to mark the location of the nail and screw. The Awl is also use in scratching lines, especially on the metal sheets or the plates.
