People Who Contribute In The Development Of The Telephone

Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell was a professor in Boston University teaching vocal physiology. He experimented the telegraphed that was developed by Samuel Morse. With his knowledge in electricity and sound, he was able to build his liquid telephone model. It consisted of a wooden stand, funnel,a cap of acid and copper wires.

The telephone evolved into different models. It uses the principles of electromagnetism.Alexander Graham Bell was credited as the inventor of modern telephone.

Hans Christian Oersted

Hans Christian Oersted was responsible in discovering electromagnetism.

He did it unintentionally while preparing a lecture in his laboratory.

He concluded that current carrying conductors produces a magnetic field. This was after he observed that a magnetic needle deflected like in the vicinity of a permanent magnet when he accidentally placed a magnetic compass in a current carrying wire.

This discovery became the principle of the electromagnets.Electromagnets is a major component in a telephone.

Michael Faraday

Faraday was the one who discovered that a changing magnetic field produces or induces current. This discovery is the reverse is the reverse of the discovery of Hans Christian Oersted which demonstrated that current carrying conductors produce a magnetic field.

Michael Faraday was able to demonstrate that even if not physically connected, a coil induce current in a nearby coil.Faraday discovered the electromagnetic induction. He was acknowledge as the father of modern electricity.

Using electromagnetic induction, Michael Faraday was able to built the first electric generator in the word.Because of this development, the operation of the telephone was sustained by a continuous source of electricity.

Joseph Henry

Joseph Henry was able to show that electromagnetism can be used in communication. He demonstrated and showed than an electromagnet with current attracted an iron bar, turn and struck a bell nearby. It is somewhat like electrical signaling.

Heinrich Hertz, Guglielmo Marconi and James Clerk Maxwell

James Clerk Maxwell hypothesized the existence of electromagnetic waves as he summed up the principles made by Oersted, Faraday, and others.

After twenty years, Heinrich Hertz was able to show the existence of the mentioned wave.He called it as the Radio Waves.

Guglielmo Marconi begins then wireless communication by using radio waves in sending messages without using wires.

Thomas Alva Edison

Thomas Alva Edison used the carbon transmitter. The electrical resistance of the carbon changes with acoustic pressure exerted on it.

Lee de Forest

The development of a nationwide telephone system
was made possible with the development of the vacuum tube built by Lee de Forest.

On that time long distance communication services suffered energy loss before it can be transmitted over long distances.the signals should be amplified to get into their respective destinations

With the use of the vacuum tube repeaters, the first transcontinental telephone line was opened between San Francisco and New york.Communication over long distances was made possible.

William Shockley, Walter Brattain, Jhon Bardeen

This three gentlemen were responsible for the development of the transistor.Vacuum triode use in the telephone network are bulky, not much efficient and more expensive to use.The transistor replaces the use of the vacuum tubes in telephone network.

Robert Keck, Robert Maurer and Peter Schultz

They are responsible for the development of the optical fiber. They produced the very first optical fibers.Their discoveries was considered as a breakthrough, creating a revolution in telecommunication.
